4 of our most popular heat pumps in the UK are:
They are all industry leaders in terms of warranty (7-years), noise levels and efficiency (up to 500% efficient).
Expect to see prices in the region of £3,000-£3,800 for a 7-8kW unit from the above brands, depending on the deals available from online plumbing and heating merchants.
Prices including installation are likely to be in the £12,000-£12,500 range, not including the radiator changes that might be required.
However, buying units directly from merchants means you’ll miss out on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme £7,500 grant.
Our advice? Get heat pump prices including installation directly from installers.
After accounting for the £7,500 government grant, expect the net cost of a £12,000-£12,500 installation to actually be £4,500-£5,000. For properties where the heat loss is low and a smaller unit is required, then the price can be considerably lower.

Or, use our eligibility checker here to check you qualify for £7,500 in funding (most households do).
The price of a typical 5kW heat pump installation is likely to be in excess of £11,500. This gets you a high quality unit, such as the Vaillant aroTHERM Plus.
However, if you use our clickable heat pump quote tool, you’ll see the total price including installation can be as low as £3,922 for a straightforward installation.
The government offers up to £7,500 in funding for those upgrading their gas boiler to an air source heat pump, via the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. So, even though the total value of the installation mentioned above is over £11,000, the price you pay would be under £4,000.
The majority of households will qualify for funding, but to double check, use our eligibility checker here.
Your installation will include:
Below, we’ll compare prices for popular heat pumps from online retailers. The prices below are for the heat pump unit only, so doesn’t include the likes of:
We will try to estimate some radiator changes with the online quote and add them into the price, using the characteristics of the home like age, EPC, region etc. to determine this estimate of radiator changes. The truth is that only a technical survey of the property can truly determine how many are required based on the heat loss of each individual room. As a guide, it would add about £150-200 per radiator change required.
These figures also don’t account for the £7,500 government grant. To qualify for this, you’ll need to purchase a package deal (including installation) from a UK installer such as Dwellow.

Prices for the Ideal Logic Air from competitive plumbing and heating merchants are in the region of £3,000-£3,750, not including installation.
As you can see in our Logic Air review, this unit is excellent value for money, you’ll get the likes of:
Another popular heat pump we install is the Mitsubishi Ecodan.
For the 8kW (like for like comparison with the Ideal Logic Air), expect to pay somewhere in the region of £3,600-£3,800 from competitive merchants.
The Ecodan range has different units within it, which we’ve explained in detail in our Ecodan review here.
For instance, if you want a low noise unit from this manufacturer, then the R32 Ultra Quiet would be the one to go for as it operates as low as 58dB. Typical heat pumps operate at 50dB or higher, so it isn't the quietest on the market, but certainly quieter than some of the older models.
Other units such as the R290 are more suited to high temperature operation, reaching up to 75°C flow temperature. Then they have the R32 Compact PUZ Monobloc, which is perfect for small space installations.
Across the Ecodan range, you'll have access to units from 5kW-11.2kW; there's a suitable unit for all small to medium sized properties in the UK. They do have double fan units, in the older looking shells, that can go higher than the 11.2kW of the newer sleeker looking units.
Warranty is inline with the Ideal Logic Air (7-years). However, it's worth bearing in mind to get this 7-year coverage, you'll need to use a Mitsubishi accredited installer. Otherwise, you'll only get the standard 3-year warranty.
Prices for the Samsung EHS HT Quiet sit in the region of £3,600-£3,750 depending on what deals are on offer from online heating merchants.
As the name suggests, the Samsung EHS HT Quiet is a great heat pump for those concerned about noise. Older heat pumps can be noisy, so if you plan to fit one close to a window this could be the unit for you.
It operates as low as 35dB in quiet mode, compared to a typical heat pump that operates in the 50-55dB range. However, quiet mode might not always be applicable and is less eifficient, so it's not going to be that quiet all of the time. Running in normal mode it will be similar to other models on the market in terms of noise levels.
But, it still operates extremely efficiently. Expect to get 5kWh of heat generated for every 1kWh of electricity consumed; it's 500% efficient in normal mode - it should be noted this would only get anywhere near 500% on a very well designed system and not all retrofit installations could expect this level of efficiency without an unlimited budget and willingness to have large amount of disruption to the home.
Alongside this, you'll get a manufacturer's warranty of 7-years, helping to make this one of the most popular heat pumps we fit in this price range.

The Vaillant aroTHERM heat pump is a popular choice for small-medium sized properties.
Expect prices to be as low as £3,450 when special offers are available online. However, we’d typically expect prices for an 8kW unit to be in the region of £3,700.
For the aroTHERM Plus R290, expect to pay £100-200 more than the price of the standard aroTHERM, which is now a discontinued unit. With 3.5kW, 5kW, 7kW, 10kW and 12kW units available in the Plus range, there's a unit suitable for most 1-5 bedroom flats and houses.
Base warranty is long at 7-years and a typical aroTHERM can work at up to 500% efficiency (as before, this is design dependent). For every 1kWh of electricity these units consume, they'll generate up to 5kWh of heat. Compare this to an A-rated gas boiler that only works at 93% efficiency!
Operating at 54dB - it is comparable to the quietest heat pumps on the market.
