Midea may not be the first name you think of when it becomes time to replace your boiler, but they are a giant in the global heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) space.
The Midea brand is quickly gaining ground in the UK market, often as a cost-effective, high-quality alternative to better known European manufacturers. With a long warranty, an emphasis on value, and a massive balance Group balance sheet, they are worth a look. They have a huge amount of patents pending and a lot of the development for new products is done in Germany.
Short on time? We’ve broken down the key findings of our Midea heat pump review in the summary below, specifically the Midea air to water heat pump.
Midea is one of the largest home appliance manufacturers in the world, with an annual revenue of over USD 60bn in 2025.Their sheer size and diverse product range is a big plus when it comes to assurances around their warranty. The issue with some manufacturers focussing exclusively on heat pumps is that the warranty won’t be worth anything if the company doesn’t survive.
The main residential unit, the Midea M-Thermal R32 and the M-Thermal Arctic R290 , offer a fantastic blend of high efficiency, decent app controls, and all at an attractive price point. But the real game-changer? Their warranty.

When investing in an air source heat pump, it’s important to know whether the company is financially stable and going to be around for the duration of the warranty and Midea Group is a huge technology company that ranks on the Fortune Global 500 list.
The Stability Factor: Unlike smaller, heat pump-only companies, Midea has a wide range of business pillars, including robotics and general home appliances. This means that the backing fortheir long warranty is very solid. If a dedicated heat pump manufacturer runs into financial trouble, their long-term warranties could be at risk with the political landscape so uncertain (especially in relation to Government support by way of grants). In fact, one in every five air source heat pumps installed in Europe carries the Midea mark of quality and guarantee.
Many top brands offer extensions to 5 or 7years. Midea, however, offers an industry-leading warranty of up to 10 years.
This is a big benefit for homeowners. A heat pump is expected to last 15-20 years, and having 10 years of that covered by a comprehensive warranty gives you unparalleled peace of mind. Given that air source heat pumps are expensive to fix, this long-term cover is a significant selling point and a huge factor in the value they offer.
The Midea units are A+++ ErP Energy Rated, putting them on a par with the very best on the market. That said, a heat pump is only good as the system design within which it is operating. Midea units can achieve impressive efficiency figures, with some units have a Coefficient ofPerformance (SCOP) as high as 5.03, depending on the designed flow temperature.
A COP of 5 means that for every 1kWh of electricity the unit consumes, it produces up to 5kWh of heat. Compare this to an A-rated gas boiler, which works at around 94% efficiency. That's an efficiency difference of up to 500%! The MCE website has a product directory that lists all the certified products and is a good place to search for the verified SCOP figures of different makes and models.
The M-Thermal Arctic uses R290 refrigerant, which is the most eco-friendly and efficient refrigerant used in air source heat pumps, and can get water temperatures up over 70 degrees, so any legionella cycle doesn’t require the input of an immersion heater.
As with most modern heating systems, Midea heat pumps offer smart controls. The system is managed via the MideaSmartHome App.
Having app control means you can:
Midea heat pumps are known to be competitively priced. They often compare favourably against other leading brands in the market.
For most homeowners, the good news is that you'll very likely be eligible for the government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)grant. Use our eligibility checker if you want to find out. This grant offers up to £7,500 in funding, which can really reduce your net installation cost.
Midea would likely save you somewhere between £750 and £1250 versus some of the larger European manufacturers, unless the installer has taken that cost reduction as margin.
You may unwittingly be comparing Midea air source heat pumps with other Midea heat pumps anyway. Many of the heat pumps you see on the market, from other well established manufacturers, are Midea heat pumps simply ‘re-badged’ by other manufacturers as their own. They are then priced at a similar level to products associated with that manufacturer; so in getting a Midea from the outset you could well be getting the same unit at a much lower price.
They do have a drop off, in terms of power output, at sub-zero temperatures, but this is something they are looking at resolving. For the time being this might mean they are more suited for properties in England rather than Scotland and those at lower altitudes rather than very high.
Midea is a dominant force in global HVAC, and their heat pumps bring financial stability and an extremely attractive warranty to the table. If your priority is finding a brand that offers a long-term guarantee (10 years is tough to beat) without compromising on modern features, Midea is a worthy contender for your shortlist. The reliability seems to be good as well.
The combination of an industry-leading warranty, A+++ efficiency, and a good price point makes the Midea heat pump a compelling option for many homes in the UK.
