In Summary: Getting Heat Pump Quotes That Save Up To £7,500

This guide to heat pump quotes and prices is a 5-minute read. Stuck for time? Bookmark this page, and read this short summary instead…

Before getting quotes for your air source heat pump, you’ll need to find an MCS installer. MCS is similar to GasSafe (the old CORGI register) for gas boilers; if you want a low-carbon heating installation, you want one from an MCS certified installer.

Using a MCS installer will mean your installation meets building regulations and is as efficient as it can be. More importantly, MCS installations are the only installations that qualify for a £7,500 government grant!

Once you’ve found an installer, you’ll need an on-site or online survey. We’ve created an online survey tool here.

As you’re looking at heat pump quotes, make sure you pick a pump that has a long warranty from a leading brand. We’d suggest 5-7 years, and to pick reputable brands such as Grant, Ideal Heating, Samsung, Vaillant, Viessmann, Daikin, Dimplex, Mitsubishi, LG and Worcester Bosch.

Alongside government grants leading to £7,500 in funding, you’ll be able to get 0% finance for 12-24 months on selected air source heat pumps using our tool here

The 5 Step Heat Pump Quote Process

1. Find Certified MCS Installers

Step 1? Find a qualified air source heat pump installer.

Whilst a range of tradespeople will “be able” to install a heat pump, you need to find a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certified installer for a couple of reasons.

MCS is the industry body for low-carbon installations; biomass boilers, ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps and solar panels. MCS installers are trained in eco-friendly installations and that leads to multiple benefits:

  • The quality of installations meet MCS standards
  • Installers experience and training means they can survey your property and configure the most efficient heating system possible
  • Their air source heat pump quotes are eligible for government funding of up to £7,500!

We’ll dig deeper into government grants in step 5, but ultimately, you can’t get a government grant if you don’t use a MCS certified installer. The consequences of using a non-certified installer? You’ll cheat yourself out of up to £7,500 in government grants via the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

All of Dwellow’s installers are MCS certified. We plan your heating system to be as efficient as possible, install it to MCS standards and ultimately, that means it will qualify for the £7,500 government funding.

2. Get Your On-Site or Online Survey

Next, you need to get a property survey from your MCS installer. Most installers will want to do a lengthy on-site survey (you’ll need to be present). This isn’t just to plan the finer details of the installation, but to ensure the system installed is the most efficient possible (our guide to heat pump efficiency is here).

Realistically, this on-site survey isn’t really needed. Installers simply need to know details such as:

  • Your current heating unit (combi gas boiler etc)
  • Where it’s installed
  • The size of your property
  • Quantity of radiators, showers and bathtubs
  • Available area outside to install an air source heat pump
  • And so on…

Without boring you to tears, if an installer’s website has the technology, this survey can be done online; you can get an air source heat pump without even speaking to anyone!

3. Check Manufacturer’s Warranty

If you’ve used a tool to grab air source heat pump quotes on any other installer’s site, you’ll probably be seeing multiple heat pumps, all at a range of prices with varied warranty periods.

We can’t stress enough how important warranty is when it comes to having your new heat pump installed. Low-quality brands generally only offer a 2-3 year warranty, which is definitely below-par when you consider the overall installation cost of your new pump is going to be in the region of £10,000.

Reputable MCS installers will generally suggest a heat pump that comes with a warranty of 5-7 years as a minimum.

4. Pick A Reputable Heat Pump Brand

An on-site or online heat pump survey will already highlight exactly what size heat pump you need. With that info to boot, you’ll want to get heat pump quotes for leading brands with a long warranty (5-7 years is ideal, as we mentioned above).

So, what brands should you be looking at getting prices for?

The 10 best brands available in the UK are:

  • Grant
  • Ideal Heating
  • Samsung
  • Vaillant
  • Viessmann
  • Daikin
  • Dimplex
  • Mitsubishi
  • LG
  • Worcester Bosch

You can’t go wrong with any of the brands mentioned above. As long as you’re fitting one of the above manufacturers, what really matters is which one offers the most suitable unit for your home, that comes complete with a long warranty.

For one property? The Samsung EHS Mono R32 might be the most suitable. For another? The Grant Aerona³ R32 could be the perfect heat pump.

5. Explore Finance & Grants

Not all installers offer finance. For any air source heat pump quotes you get via Dwellow, you’ll be able to apply for a 12-24 month 0% finance package.

Whilst 0% finance is great, what you need to focus on is installers offering government grants alongside a heat pump installation. The most common government grant used by customers currently is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). Eligible customers will get up to a £7,500 discount on their heat pump installation.

As a general rule of thumb, if you’ve not had funding for an air source heat pump or biomass boiler in the past and don’t live in a newbuild, there’s a good chance you’re eligible. Don’t worry if you’ve had funding for cavity wall insulation…you’ll still be eligible!

Looping back to step 1 (“find certified MCS installers”), you won’t be eligible for the government grant if you don’t use a MCS installer. So, whilst a general tradesperson might be slightly cheaper than an experienced MCS certified installer, you’ll lose out on £7,500 in funding!

Dwellow’s installers are all MCS certified, so your installation will qualify for relevant government grants. You can get heat pump quotes from our MCS installers using our clickable heat pump tool here
